Last month, we interviewed on of our favorite artists of all time, Chris Conley of Saves The Day. We talked about the Where’s The Band Tour, upcoming Saves The Day plans and his upcoming plans with Two Tongues. Click ‘more’ to check out the interview.
Can you tell us who you are, please?
STD: My name is Chris Conley, I play guitar and sing in a band called Saves The Day.
RTS Nick: So why have you been doing the Where’s The Band Tour for the past few years?
STD: The Where’s The Band Tour is a very fun thing to do because we all travel around in one van and there is a lot of comradery. It’s just fun to roll up in nothing but acoustic guitars on stage and exchange sets. We walk up one after another and there is no change over the sets. It’s a really low-key show. It’s also fun just to hang out with each other.
RTS Nick” With the tour, you guys add a few people every year. This year you added Evan [Weiss] and Ace [Enders]. Who would you like to add on the tour?
STD: We are always cool with adding more people. I always wanted to have Anthony [Green] of Circa Survive on the tour. He does his own solo thing, so that’d be cool. Max [Bemis] of Say Anything, Justin [Pierre] from Motion City Soundtrack…. There are tons of guys that can do these acoustic performances and hopefully this thing will start to grow over the next few years.
Speaking of Max, that segways into my next question. With Two Tongues, how was it working with someone that openly admired you growing up, and now you’re working with him?
STD: I admire Max’s music a lot, so it was fun for the both of us. We just sat across a couch from each other and wrote the whole record in a week. It was productive. We worked well together. We just clicked right away, musically. That wound up being a really fun experience and we’re going to wind up doing another album this year.
RTS Nick: Are you going to record this year?
STD: We want to start writing this year.
RTS Nick: Is there any date that you want to hit the studio?
STD: No, right now, all we know is that we want to start writing.
You guys have signed onto Razor + Tie Records and I wanted to know your relationship with the label.
STD: I love the people that work at Razor + Tie. I feel like I can relate with them on a personal level. I feel like I can chat with these guys about life. It’s not all about the business. I feel comfortable over there. I feel like they care about the artists. It’s been a really good experience so far.
RTS Nick: How have you guys enjoyed the release of your latest album, Daybreak?
STD: It’s been great so far. It came out this September and right away we had a great response from our fan base. Then we went overseas and we had a great response from the crowd. It feels like this is the most excited people have been for a Saves The Day record for a couple of years.
RTS Nick: How was the European/UK Tour with Yellowcard?
STD: It was cool. It was awesome sharing a tour bus with Yellowcard. They are great guys. It was fun playing those shows because they have a great following over there and most of the shows were sold out. We got to play for a lot of different people that may have never heard of us before. That was a great experience for
us musically. It was really great seeing all of the cities and exploring the towns throughout the day.
What are your summer plans for Saves The Day or even yourself? Are you going to do an acoustic tour or are you going to do something with Saves The Day?
STD: We may do a headlining tour this spring, or we will wait to this summer. Pending on what happens with that, we will start to write some new material this spring or summer. We’re trying to keep the ball rolling.
RTS Nick: When do you guys expect to record?
STD: I’d say the earliest we would record would be around winter of 2013.
RTS Nick: That would be released by Razor + Tie, right?
STD: I hope so. I’m not sure if you know to much about record deals, but Razor + Tie has an option for us. We signed a 1 album contract and they have the option to release another one of our albums. It’s there option.
Would you ever consider releasing any solo material or an acoustic album with Saves The Day?
STD: We did do an acoustic version of Daybreak, but I get what you mean, a whole album of acoustic new material… I never really thought that much about doing a solo album, but I think about it from time to time. I might get into it at some time… Who knows?- Maybe a few months from now.
RTS Nick: Thank you for doing this interview, I really appreciate it.
STD: Yeah, thank you.
RTS Nick: Do you have any last notes?
STD: Nope, thank you for doing the interview.
