How are you doing Nate?
fun.: I am great.

I first wanted to know how excited you guys are to play the 15th anniversary show of Fueled By Ramen?
fun.: It’s really cool. It’s pretty flattering for us because Andrew, Jack and I grew up on it. It’s really nostalgic for us. It’s pretty the light bulb was started to make this label 15 years ago. It’s really cool that we are playing with their biggest bands. I think it’s really flattering.
RTS Nick: What band or bands do you think you will enjoy seeing the most?
fun.: I haven’t really given much thought. My girlfriend is a designer and has been in fashion shows recently. I hope to go to the other show and I’m always excited to see Paramore though and I’m looking forward for the Swellers because I am a big fan of them.
You’ve played with Paramore before in England and I wanted to know how excited you guys are to reunite with them?
fun.: It will be great. I think Jack might have seen them in L.A. when we were making the album, but I haven’t seen them since we left that tour. I’m really excited to see them at the end. They are seriously some of the sweetest and most awesome people I have ever met. That might be a cliche, but it’s really always exciting to see them. We always work well together.

What do you think your favorite album was that was released by Fueled By Ramen?
fun.: Oh jeez. It’s probably… one of the… one of the Impossibles’ albums. I can’t remember which one because I have a really bad memory with album song titles and album names, but the Impossibles are definitely my favorites.

How excited are you to release an album with Fueled by Ramen considering their history with bands that include: Paramore, Jimmy Eat World and Less Than Jake?
fun: I’m so excited. I remember when the Jimmy Eat World release happened and buying it on vinyl. I mean I do not know how our release will rank amongst against all of theirs, but I’m hoping that people talk about it the same way.
RTS Nick: For your upcoming album, when should the release date be around?
fun.: I’m not sure. We are in the process of finishing up. I still want to write a little more for it, but it will be released in a few months, the least.

I wanted to take a step and talk about ‘Aim & Ignite’. When you released your album with the Formats’. ‘Dog Problems’ it was a concept album. Do you consider ‘Aim & Ignite’ a concept album?
fun.: I don’t think so. Concept was always a word that I got scared after ‘Dog Problems’. I think the word is overused. Most of the albums I do, I think are conceptual in some point based on the fact that they are coming from where I was at that time. I’m a big tracklisting kind of guy. I want to make sure all of the songs come together. I don’t like to use the word concept album though. I think it uses another type of thought that I am just not that interested in as a songwriter.

Are you guys going to be releasing a Christmas song before the album comes out like you did last year?
fun.: That is Andrew’s department. Christmas time is a bit weird. I’m not a fan of Christmas. Andrew loves Christmas and Christmas songs. I wouldn’t be surprised if we do do a Christmas song this year.

You guys released the song “C’mon” with Panic! at the Disco. How was it collaborating with them?
fun.: I thought it was really cool. I haven’t listened to much of them prior to the tour, but I heard they were fans and I heard they were interested in doing something with us. I went back and listened to ‘Pretty Odd’ during the time we were working together and I became obsessed with it. That was kind of exciting for me because I began nerding out with them about the album. I asked them a whole bunch of questions about ‘Pretty Odd.’
RTS Nick: Who wrote the song and whose idea was it to do the collaboration?
fun.: We had worked on the song about a year before. We all wrote the song together and I wrote the concept and the chorus. The writing of the song came when we started recording it though.

Alright Nate, I appreciate you taking your time to do the interview.
fun.: No worries. Of course. Thank you.
