Motion City Soundtrack, fun., A Rocket To The Moon, Sing It Loud

By: Faith Draayom

Last Monday was not the first time I’d seen the bands on this Spring’s Motion City Soundtrack tour, and I’m surely hoping it will not be the last, but it was definitely one of the best shows I have ever attended. The whole line up was swelling with energy, and for me, there’s nothing better than seeing the bands having a good time on stage.

First up was a five-piece  pop rock band from Minnesota, Sing It Loud. They really set a great first impression for the evening to come. Their energetic stage presence, poppy rock anthems, and entertaining stage antics really got the crowd going and prepped everyone for what would be an excellent night. Keyboardist Ben Peterson and bassist Nate Flynn really pimped up the energy with crazy kicks and tricks.

A Rocket To The Moon took the stage next. Now, I’ve got to say, this group of guys happens to be one of my favorite bands, so I was really excited to see them again (it was my fifth ARTTM show). However, I’ve got to be honest, due to a lot of technical difficulties, it wasn’t their best show for me. Despite their problems though, they pushed through and managed to put on a great show. The crowd was stoked to see them, and I think their energy gave the guys the energy to do their best.

The third band to take the stage was fun. They have got to be one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. Lead singer Nate Ruess has so much energy and power behind his vocals that I was simply blown away. I’d seen fun. before, but seeing them again really showed me just how ridiculously talented this group of individuals are. Every element of their show was flawless and their evident love for music really makes this a band you have to see live.

Headlining the night was Motion City Soundtrack. The last time I’d seen this band, I wasn’t too impressed with their live performance, but my impression was completely changed by this show. I was completely enthralled by synth/keyboardist Jesse Johnson’s flips, kicks, and other daredevil moves. Plus, Justin Pierre’s vocals were absolutely perfect the whole night, despite being sick.  The raw energy and excitement throughout the crowd was buzzing throughout the whole venue, and as far as I could tell, everyone was more than excited to be there.
