New Year’s Eve in NYC was probably one of the busiest nights in the club world this year, and who better to bring in the New Year at Webster Hall than Nero. Nero managed to blow the roof off of Webster Hall by bringing in an excellent mixture of electro-house and dubstep with even a little drum and bass. Nero pleased the crowd by playing major bangers such as “Me and You” “Promises” “Cinema” and tons of remixes that kept the crowd active up until the point where Nero left the stage at 5:00 am. The energy was truly unmistakable this New Year’s at Webster Hall, from the eccentric laser displays to the massive bump of the bass to the rhythm of the crowd as Nero absolutely destroyed everyone’s brain with his monstrous sounds. Overall, this has been one of the best New Year’s parties I have ever been to and look forward to seeing more from Nero in the near future.

On January 21, 2012 the “Where’s The Band?” Tour made it’s third stop at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY. The night was met with great reactions as each artist played their set. There was a sense of calm as every song was played. The atmosphere was intimate as the artists made small talk with those nearby in the crowd, made jokes, told stories and even took requests.

One could tell the everyone at Webster Hall was ready to rage out once Midnight Conspiracy hit the stage, the duo from Chicago primarily focuses on electro house and dubstep, and sure enough they showed New York some Chicago hospitality. While playing some of their older songs like their remixes of Lucky Date’s Ho’s and Disco’s and Crystal Castles Crime wave kept the true fans happy, Midnight Conspiracy definitely showcased their new banger and EP Discord. The dirty bass lines and hard-hitting synth leads really built the energy of the crowd that halfway through the set everyone in the room was raging out.

Midnight Conspiracy & CENOB1TE – The Eye (Original) by Midnight Conspiracy

Savoy continued to bring the heat after Midnight Conspiracy stepped down from the stage, this trio from Boulder, CO have reigned supreme on the dubstep beat port charts continuously through the year of 2011. Savoy played everything that would be included in a perfect set; there was a great mixture of house, electro and dubstep that kept everyone on the dance floor from the hardcore dub heads to the traditional house fans. Savoy threw out amazing tracks like, “I’m in Need” , their “Dirty Dancer” remix and one of my favorites of the night was their remix of Dev.’s “Dancing in the Dark.” Overall Savoy put on an amazing show that paved the way for the entrance of the king, Feed Me.

Feed Me has to be the best show I have seen at Webster Hall during my time at ReWriteTheScene.com by far. Every aspect of this show, from Feed Me on stage, to the crowd, to the energy of the room all lead to an amazing experience that left me breathless once the show was over. Feed Me, originally from London, really knew how to connect to this New York crowd and was able to get everyone involved with his show. Playing such classics like, “Pink Lady”, “Cloudburn”, and “Muscle Rollers” Feed Me made sure that every element was addressed in his show demonstrating an amazing mix of his own works with the top charts today. I have been a huge Feed Me fan for several years now, and finally being able to see him live was an experience like none other. For those who don’t know who this amazing producer is, I suggest you check him out now.

Overall, this night was definitely one of the best nights I have experienced at Webster Hall and was the perfect way to say goodbye to 2011.

To be honest, Forgetting Something Unforgettable isn’t my cup of tea. It didn’t draw me in the way some music does; I couldn’t relate to the lyrics, and often found my mind wandering while listening to them. However, that doesn’t mean that I think they’re an awful band or anything like that. A Story Left Untold is an excellent band. Their instrumentals kick total ass, and while I admit that girl singers in punk bands have never exactly impressed me much, Elle’s honey sweet voice seems to fit just right with the punk instrumentals. I have a lot of respect for Elle and Alex for going up there and showing the stereotypes whose boss.
The song that got my feet moving the most is Back to September, the seventh track on the album. When it comes on through my speakers I can’t help but dance around to its fast pace and catchy melody. In fact, with the exception of Life Points and Shut Up, Say You’ll Stay, which are the album’s more mellow songs, this album is chock full of catchy melodies and beats fast enough to dance to. The songs are bound to get stuck in your head for days on end and keep your feet moving every time the song plays through your head. It’s like I said; just because this album isn’t on my top 10 favorite albums of 2011, it doesn’t mean they’re not a good band.
On a scale from 1 – 10 I’d have to rate this album a solid 6. Just because it didn’t draw me in doesn’t mean it won’t do the same for you, so if you like pop punk, catchy melodies and a honey sweet voice, I’d definitely recommend this album for you.

Saying that the sold out show at the Broadway Bar in Amityville, Long Island was chaotic is an understatement. It was fucking nuts. The venue’s sound and the energy from the crowd made it feel like a true DIY Punk show. A picture is worth a thousand words and the only way you can even explain the energy is through pictures.

On November 15, 2011 the Bayside/Saves The Day tour came to New York City at Irving Plaza with Transit and I Am The Avalanche in support. The night felt like a welcome home show for Bayside and I Am The Avalanche, being New York locals with plenty of support in tow. After what seemed like a long period of calm, Transit opened the show as they had been for every other show on the tour. For a band that usually plays “no barricade shows” they found a good way to transfer their energy onto a bigger stage. Considering this is one of their longer tours it’s no surprise that some fatigue may have shown but despite this they were still a huge crowd pleaser. It’s a much different atmosphere than a show in your local community center where kids are stage diving but crowd favorites like the closer “Please Head North” still hit the crowd like it always did.

The first of the hometown heroes followed Transit, I Am The Avalanche. IATA easily had the strongest start of the night, kicking things off with their most recent single off Avalanche United, “Brooklyn Dodgers”. Right from the start the crowd went wild, as IATA sets tend to cause. Throughout their time on stage the energy never dipped and there were plenty of references to being back home, even a shout out to Vinnie Caruana’s parents. Although this tour is in support of their latest album, it was pleasing to witness IATA play a decent handful of old songs.

Following I Am The Avalanche was the second homecomer of the night, Bayside. In true Bayside fashion it was a calming start with Anthony Raneri doing a solo opening to “Blame It On Bad Luck”. It was hard to hear him over the crowd singing along, as would be the case for most of their set. Another band who recently had a new album come out (Killing Time), they too played a nostalgic set. Despite all this, it might be in Anthony’s best interest to slow down on the smoking.

Finally came the headliner, Saves The Day on their big date with Bayside headlining the next day. Saves The Day gave I Am The Avalanche a run for their money for best performance of the night. Chris Conley was on key through every song as he has been in the past. While the crowd did not exhibit as much energy as earlier there was a sense of subdued excitement. There was less talk and more playing for Saves The Day and although it’s not exactly a problem, song after song after song gets to be a disconnect between performer and audience.

All in all it was very fun night for anyone in attendance and especially for diehard Saves The Day fans. It was truly a good closer to what has turned out to be a great tour.

Be sure to be on the lookout for more shows featuring I Am The Avalanche in the coming months with Balance & Composure.
Also, look out for the Wheres My Band? Tour featuring Bayside’s own, Anthony Raneri and Saves The Day’s own, Chris Conley.

The tension in the air was ecstatic as the ravers on the main floor waited for the main attraction to start at Webster Hall in NYC on Friday night. What everyone was waiting for was a massive light set up that took up most of the stage once the curtains were raised. Then LA producer Mimosa came out and started the party off by sampling the intro of Jay Z and Kanye’s “Niggas in Paris.” He held the audience in suspense as he continued to build up the sample and then just before the audience could catch their breath, Mimosa threw down a dirty deep drop that rattled the crowd to their bones and at the same time the stage was fully illuminated by the light set up behind him giving a cool shadow effect that ultimately played off as epic.

Webster Hall went crazy! The dance floor remained packed as Mimosa threw a massive party that focused a lot around hip-hop and rap but also included dirty dub step tracks. People were going wild, there were multiple mosh pits happening, people jumping on stage to join Mimosa, and girls dancing on the speakers at the corners of the room. Mimosa completely controlled the crowd, going wild behind the DJ board and ragging out in energetic thrusts of passion as he threw down tons of popular dub step tracks. It was very interesting to see Mimosa become this massive party monster who incorporated his popular tracks like “Up in the Clouds” and “Get Em” in a heavy hip hop and rap music setlist. It just goes to show the raw talent of this producer, to be able to produce one style of music and focus on his own experimental projects but then to also appease the crowd by throwing a killer party with familiar songs that people know. This producer from LA is certainly not one to underrate, because Mimosa can throw down just as hard as the heavy hitters in the dubstep scene like: Skrillex, Rusko, and Diplo.

The M Machine, off Skrillex’s new label OWSLA, also represented on Friday by opening up the crowd before Mimosa took the stage. The two thirds of the M Machine that were at Webster Hall succeeded in bringing up the energy by playing a good mix of heavy bangers from producers like Tiesto, Dada Life, and Dirty South. Both of these guys are from San Francisco, CA and totally showed NYC that San Fran can party hard too!
Although I didn’t get to stay around for Mustard Pimp’s whole set, everyone at Webster Hall killed it. Everyone was really chill and after meeting The M Machine and Mimosa in the back room, I could tell that both of them were great performers who had a huge passion for EDM music.

Today we are pleased to premiere another brand new acoustic session for Rewrite The Scene. After their show at Dominion in New York City for CMJ, This Good Robot took the time and did an acoustic session with us and a few of their awesome fans. The 8 member band highlighed everything that is right in today’s music scene. Their EP, The Human I Am is single handedly the best and most underrated EP of 2011. By far. This Good Robot has so much potential to make an impact on this scene and with that, I present you, This Good Robot performing their unreleased song, “So It Goes”.
