Before I listened to this album, chatter about The Swellers had come to my ears but never paid close attention. Looking back on those times I wish I would have paid close attention.
By the third word of the first track, I was in love and I still am in love with a whole listen to the album.
So many of the songs touch me, word by word – line by line. Being able to identify with these songs was an added bonus. The lyrics are a major part of falling in love with a band or an album, they have to mean something to you weather you realize it or not. I always worry when I listen to a band for the first time if they can sing, if they can write and if they can play. All of those parts are what makes up a great song, a great album. The Swellers are a group of guys who can do all of those and we are in a world where you get big names to write what you sing and arrange everything for you.
I know many people will not listen to a new band if there isn’t a comparison to a band they love, or at least have heard of. The one band that popped into my head while listening to ‘Good For Me’ was Against Me. A few of the songs on the album does have a feel of Against Me.
‘Good For Me’ is full of love, heartbreak, looking back on how things used to be and looking forward to new things. As I said before this album I was able to identify with each song, I’m sure everyone else will be able to do the same.
